Saw 2

After the brutal death of a police informant (another one of Jigsaw’s victims), Detective Eric Mason and his former cop partner, Kerry, find a clue that leads them and the police to Jigsaw/John’s lair where they find him attached to an IV (he has cancer), working on his latest “project”. They find out Jigsaw’s new game plan when they discover several monitors in his lair showing a live view of an abandoned house with 8 people, including Mason’s son Daniel, trapped in. One of the victims also include Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the beartrap victim who survived Jigsaw’s game from the first film. The 8 people are all slowly dying from a poisonous nerve gas and there are a few syringes with antidotes hidden in the house. The rule is to survive for 3 hours (the doors will open in 3 hours), but they will die in 2 hours unless they find the antidotes. All of them are criminals who have done jail time except for Daniel and according to Jigsaw, they all have one thing in common: Daniel’s father, Mason, was the one who put them in prison. Mason tries to get the house’s location from Jigsaw by talking to him and threatening him, but no such luck. One by one, the victims suffer gruesome deaths until Xavier, Daniel, and Amanda are left. Xavier discovers numbers on the back of each person’s neck which will give a combination to a safe containing the syringes of antidotes. He goes after Daniel and Amanda for the remaining numbers. Daniel and Amanda find a trap door under the safe and escapes with Xavier close behind them. In the meantime, Mason snaps and beats Jigsaw to a bloody pulp until he tells him the location. He then grabs Jigsaw and drives away without telling anyone where he’s going. Mason arrives at the house, leaves a bloody Jigsaw in the van, and charges into the house, finding the dead bodies. Meanwhile, Amanda and Daniel run until they find themselves trapped in a filthy bathroom with 2 dead, decomposing bodies inside which are the bodies of Adam and Dr. Lawrence Gordon from the first Saw film! Daniel kills Xavier with a saw that was left in the bathroom. In the meantime, the cops had found a trace through the video camera. They charge into a house, but no one is inside. Kerry tells them she can’t see them on the monitors. It is then they discover that everything they had seen on the monitors happening in the house have already happened and had been pre-recorded before they even caught Jigsaw! Mason finds his way into the bathroom where he is knocked out by someone wearing a pig mask. When he wakes up, he finds himself chained in the bathroom, his gun out of reach, and a tape recorder with Amanda’s voice explaining how she was guilty of a lot of things, but not what he had arrested her for. She started doing drugs in prison and using drugs was how she met Jigsaw. After she passed Jigsaw’s “test”, he had become her mentor who taught her about life and death, and she will carry on his work after he dies. As soon as the 3 hour timer runs out, a safe in Jigsaw’s lair opens right in front Kerry, revealing Daniel inside, alive with an oxygen mask. Amanda appears outside the bathroom and tells Mason “Game Over” and slides the door shut, leaving him in the bathroom to die, and goes back to Jigsaw.
Another great horror flick which lived up to the original. Just when you thought you knew what was going to happen, another twist happens. I loved the twist ending, certainly did not see it coming! If you loved the first Saw, then I highly recommend this entertaining sequel!
