Plot Summary:
Drew Baylor (Orlando
Bloom), once a rising star at a leading athletic shoe company, has just been
fired due to the overwhelming failure of his design for a sneaker and the $972
million loss his company suffered because of the fiasco.  As if that wasn’t
bad enough, things get even worse:  Drew receives a phone call informing
him that his father has passed away — and now, he must get on a plane for
Elizabethtown, Kentucky, to retrieve his father’s remains.

One the plane ride, Drew
meets Claire (Kirsten Dunst), a flight attendant and unstoppably positive woman
who changes the course of his life.  It is in Kentucky that Drew comes to
learn the breadth of his father’s life and his own family roots.  Drew,
with the help of Claire, submits to discovering the possibilities for his own
destiny.  A love letter to the resilience of the life force,
"Elizabethtown" is a charming, music-filled journey that proves amazing things
can happen when you least expect them.

Starring: Orlando Bloom (Drew Baylor), Kirsten Dunst (Claire Colburn), Susan Sarandon (Hollie Baylor), Alec Baldwin (Phil DeVoss), Bruce McGill (Bill Banyon), Judy Greer (Heather Baylor)

Drew meets and develops a friendship with flight attendant Claire. They end up falling in love. Drew’s father’s funeral and memorial go well, with Hollie giving a tearful and touching speech about her beloved husband, and ending with the sprinklers going off after a giant paper bird catches on fire while Jessie (Paul Schneider) and his band reunite to play for Mitch’s memorial. Claire urges Drew to drive home, saying everyone needs to go on a road trip alone once in their lives. She gives him a map and music CDs for the trip, outlining every detail and sight in the guide book she wrote he should see. Drew scatters his father’s ashes along the way, visiting every sight she recommends. He finally stops at the World’s Second Largest Farmers Market, where he finds the shoe he designed (and failed) being sold, and clues that lead him to Claire standing amongst a crowd wearing her red cap. They run to each other and kiss.

Another delightful film by Cameron Crowe! Orlando Bloom was absolutely charming (with a decent American accent), and Kirsten Dunst shined as his perky love interest. There was real onscreen chemistry between the 2 main characters. The dialogues were witty, and the soundtrack was awesome. The movie finely illustrated how the worst thing that could happen to you could actually be the best thing to ever happen to you. When life seems too difficult to bear, when you are feeling your worst, sometimes you may find true friends and/or love, and realize which people truly care about you.
