Turns out Violet and Luke are in on the plot together. Mama Cecile’s and Papa Justify’s souls are actually in Violet’s and Luke’s bodies. Years ago, Papa Justify and Mama Cecile had used voodoo black magic to transfer their souls into the bodies of the young brother and sister who had lived in the house. Ever since then, they had been periodically transferring their souls into younger bodies (who believed in voodoo magic) as soon as the current bodies got too old to continue living. Therefore, Caroline was hired to be the new young body for Mama Cecile. With help from Papa Justify, Mama Cecile successfully transfers her soul into Caroline’s body and Caroline’s soul becomes trapped in Violet’s body. Ben and Caroline/Violet are taken away in an ambulance. The house is left to “Caroline” by “Violet”, so Papa Justify and Mama Cecile can keep living there.
