Plot Summary:
In the new film from
acclaimed writer/director Jim Jarmusch, winner of the Grand Prix at the 2005
Cannes International Film Festival, Bill Murray stars as Don Johnston.

The resolutely single Don
has just been dumped by his latest lover, Sherry (Julie Delpy).  Don yet
again resigns himself to being alone and left to his own devices.  Instead,
he is compelled to reflect on his past when he receives by mail a mysterious
pink letter.  It is from an anonymous former lover and informs him that he
has a 19-year-old son who may now be looking for his father

Don is urged to investigate
this "mystery" by his closest friend and neighbor, Winston (Jeffrey Wright), an
amateur sleuth and family man.  Hesitant to travel at all, Don nonetheless
embarks

on
a cross-country trek in search of clues from four former flames (Frances Conroy,
Jessica Lange, Sharon Stone, and Tilda Swinton).  Unannounced visits to
each of these unique women hold new surprises for Don as he haphazardly
confronts his past and, consequently, his present.

Starring: Bill Murray (Don Johnston), Julie Delpy (Sherry), Jeffrey Wright (Winston), Heather Simms (Mona), Brea Frazier (Rita), Sharon Stone (Laura Miller), Jessica Lange (Carmen), Frances Conroy (Dora), Tilda Swinton (Penny)

Following Winston’s advice, Don visits his four ex-girlfriends (actually 5 exes, but one died a few years ago) from 20 years ago who could have sent him the letter about his son. First ex is Laura who has a teenage daughter named Lolita (Alexis Dziena), but no son; Second ex is Dora who is married to Ron (Christopher McDonald), but no kids (although she looked uneasy when Don asked her and only mentioned no kids with Ron); Third ex is Carmen who turns out to be an animal communicator. She is single with an older daughter, but no son; Fourth ex is Penny who is hostile towards Don and tells him to get lost. Don sees a pink typewriter on the ground and asks her if she has any kids. Furious, she storms back into the house and 2 guy friends of Penny’s approaches Don and one punches him out. He wakes up in his car and drives to a florist and visits the grave of another ex, Michelle. Don then goes back home since he’s had no luck finding out who sent him the letter. At the airport, he sees a young kid standing around, looking lost. The next day, Don sees him again outside a restaurant. Thinking the kid is his son who is searching for him, Don buys him a sandwich. They talk a bit, but then Don freaks him out when he talks about him being his son. The kid runs away (obviously not Don’s son). Don chases him, stops, and sees a car driving by with a teenage boy dressed in a jogging suit inside looking at him hard (could be his son perhaps). Don stands in the streets, looking lost.
