Plot Summary:
Michael Bay directs the futuristic action thriller
"The Island", starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson.

Lincoln Six-Echo (Ewan
McGregor) is a resident of a seemingly utopian but contained facility in the
mid-21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully
controlled environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to "The Island" —
reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet — until he makes a
terrible discovery that everything about his existence is a lie…and that he
is actually more valuable dead than alive.

Together with a
beautiful fellow resident named Jordan Two-Delta (Scarlett Johansson),
Lincoln makes a daring escape to the outside world he’s never known.
Now, with the forces of the institute that once housed them relentlessly
hunting them down, Lincoln and Jordan engage in a desperate race for their
lives.

Island
Starring: Ewan McGregor (Lincoln Six Echo/Tom Lincoln), Scarlett Johansson (Jordan Two Delta/Sarah Jordan), Djimon Hounsou (Albert Laurent), Sean Bean (Merrick), Steve Buscemi (McCord), Michael Clarke Duncan (Starkweather)
Lincoln Six Echo, Jordan Two Delta, and the rest of the people living in the habitat are actually clones of real people. Merrick is using them to find cures for diseases, hoping to make lots of money out of it. If the clones have too many “flaws”, he destroys them (or sends them to The Island as he leads the clones to believe). Lincoln finds all this out, so he grabs Jordan and they escape the premises of the facility and enters the real world. They find out the truth from McCord (who gets killed soon after). They manage to track down Tom Lincoln, the millionaire “sponsor” guy Lincoln Six Echo was cloned from. Tom tries to send Lincoln and Jordan back outside where Albert Laurent can kill them, but only Lincoln goes with him while Jordan stays behind as she had sensed Tom was lying about something. Lincoln tricks Laurent into killing the real Tom Lincoln and then returns to his house. In the meantime, Merrick discovers that the clones have taken on the memories of their sponsors and are starting to “think”, so he makes plans to destroy them all and start fresh. Meanwhile, Lincoln and Jordan makes plans to get back into the facility to destroy the main power projector, so Jordan allows herself to be captured while Lincoln impersonates Tom and walks in. Merrick finds out Tom is the one who’s dead, so he hunts down Lincoln. While fighting Merrick, Lincoln manages to destroy the main power projector that creates a holograph around the facility, exposing the real world to the clones. Merrick gets killed in the process. Laurent, who had turned against Merrick, helps Jordan rescue the clones and set them free to the real world. Closing scene ends with Lincoln and Jordan sailing away together on a boat to a tropical island.
***A satisfying fast-paced film with some thrilling action scenes and a decent plot. Good popcorn movie, totally what I expected from a Michael Bay film.
