Fever Pitch (2005)
Starring: Drew Barrymore (Lindsey Meeks), Jimmy Fallon (Ben), KaDee Strickland (Robin), Ione Skye (Molly), Marissa Jaret Winokur (Sarah)
Ben misses a game to go a birthday party with Lindsey. They have a great night together until he finds out he missed a great game where the Red Sox won. He blames her and says it’s one of the worst nights of his life. Lindsey is hurt and they break up. Lindsey gets her promotion and hears that Ben is selling all his season tickets to her friend Robin’s husband for $125,000. She rushes to the stadium in the eighth inning, spends $600 on tickets from a guy on the streets to get in, and ends up running across the field (with security and police chasing after her) to tell Ben not to sell the tickets. Ben tells her he loves her enough to sell the tickets and she tells him she loves him enough to not let him sell. They kiss and she gets arrested for running across the field. During the commentaries, we find out the Red Sox won the world series for the first time in more than 80 years and Ben and Lindsey decide on baby names for later.

A sweet and decent romantic comedy. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this film. Drew Barrymore shined in her role as Lindsey Meeks and Jimmy Fallon was surprisingly great as well. The script was witty and smartly written with plenty of laugh-out-loud and touching moments. I liked how the relationship between Barrymore and Fallon seemed great a first (she was seeing the nice “winter guy”), but when baseball season came around, she figured out the true extent of his Red Sox obsession and realized the relationship is far from perfect. One of the most touching scenes in the film was when Barrymore told Fallon she got her period, it shows him sadly putting a baby-sized Red Sox jersey he had bought (in case she was pregnant) away in the drawer. If you want a sweet, light romantic date movie or if you’re a big Red Sox fan, then this is the film for you.
