Amityville Horror, The (2005)

Based on a true story - George Lutz and his wife Kathy and her 3 children move into a house on Long Island. They find out the previous family (the Defeo family) that had lived in the house were murdered when one of the family members flipped out after hearing voices and shot them all after 28 days. Despite that, George and Kathy decide to buy the house and move in anyways. It isn’t long before George soon starts hearing voices and acting strangely, and Chelsea starts seeing and talking to the ghost of little Jodie Defeo. The Lutz family drifts apart. Kathy goes to see Father Callaway and asks for his help. When Father Callaway comes to the house to get rid of the evil spirits, he is driven out, and tells Kathy to get her family out the house. Kathy goes to the library and finds out the house used to belong to a man named Katchem who had built it for the purpose of torturing and killing Indians. Katchem then slit his own throat so his spirit would always be in the house. Therefore, the voices George is hearing is the ghost of Katchem and the demons he sees are the Indians. After 28 days, George snaps and tries to kill Kathy and the kids. She and the kids manage to knock out George and drag him onto the boat. When George regains consciousness, he tells her to keep going and don’t look back. They never return to the house for their possessions.
