Jacket, The
Starring: Adrien Brody (Jack Starks), Keira Knightley (Jackie Price), Kris Kristofferson (Dr. Thomas Becker), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Dr. Lorenson), Kelly Lynch (Jean Price)
A patient at the mental institution tells Jack he’ll be able to see the future if he can ignore the past. Jack does and discovers he can leap between years 1992 and 2007. In 2007, he meets grown-up Jackie and learns her mother, Jean, had died after smoking in bed. Ever since, Jackie had become hardened and bitter about life, just getting by with waitressing. Jack ends up falling in love with her. He also learns information he can use to convince the doctors he’s not crazy, including Dr. Lorenson whom he helps by giving her treatment details for her friend’s sick son. Back in 1992, Jack finds young Jackie and Jean’s home (he had asked Jackie for her address in 2007), gives Jean a letter telling her not to smoke in bed and to call Jackie Petal more often because she likes the nickname. On his way back to the institution, he slips and falls, hitting his head on ice (which is the blunt trauma that his death certificate said was the cause of his death - something he found out in 2007). As requested, Dr. Lorenson gets him back into the jacket and locker drawer, and then see Jack in year 2007 again. It’s daytime, he sees a happier looking Jackie who then offers him a ride before going to her job at the hospital. Her mom (who didn’t die from smoking in bed) calls and they chat. Bright lights shine on her car, illustrating how everything is happier and nicer.
