Meet the Fockers

Want to watch a funny comedy flick? Then check out this
sequel!  The 1st flick (Meet the Parents) involved Greg Focker (played
by Ben Stiller) meeting Pam Byrnes’s (played by Teri Polo) parents, Jack and
Dina Byrnes.  There were many challenges and obstacles, but Greg was
finally able to get Jack’s approval to marry her AND be in the "circle of
trust".  Now, this sequel is about Pam’s parents meeting Greg’s more
*ahem* interesting parents, Bernie and Roz Focker..

* Dustin Hoffman plays Greg’s dad, and showcases his
"karate kid"-like martial arts skills.

* Roz (Blythe Danner) and Dina (Barbra Streisand) get
to know each other.  Dina teaches a thing or two to Roz about
sexuality, hoping that they can help Jack Byrnes limber.

What’s the challenge in this movie?  Well, Jack
and Dina Byrnes are your usual stiff and straight-up kind of parents while
Bernie and Roz Focker are more liberal and open, especially about their very
active sex life.  When they finally meet, you can just imagine the
personality clashes that will happen.

* Jack is feeling tense after football!  He gets
worked on by Roz on the massage table.  That was a super funny skit.
She was definitely riding him like SeaBiscuit!

As usual, Jack, with his CIA-paranoia-radar, becomes
suspicious of Greg and his past.  Determined to uncover his secrets, he
does everything in his power to expose him.  Little does he know, Pam
and Greg have a little secret of their own…

* The Fockers know no bounds when it comes to privacy.
Jack is caught in the shower while Bernie (Dustin Hoffman) is doing nature’s
call.

* Feeling blue, Bernie just rescued his doggy from the
toilet of Jack’s RV.  That darn cat of his flushed the toilet, using!
Poor dog.  Just for the sake of comedy! :)

* Dinner time!  A lot about Greg’s past is
revealed over wine and fondue!  Bernie showcases Greg’s baby album, and
all the embarrassing goods — including his circumcisioned foreskin!
Yuk!

Highlights of the movie:  Little Jack’s (played by
Spencer and Bradley Pickren) first word, the RV, the fondue party, and the
engagement party.

Starring: Robert De Niro (Jack Byrnes), Ben Stiller (Greg/Gaylord Focker), Dustin Hoffman (Bernie Focker), Barbra Streisand (Roz Focker), Blythe Danner (Dina Byrnes), Teri Polo (Pam Byrnes), Spencer & Bradley Pickren (Little Jack)

Jack suspects Greg had an illegitimate son, Jorge (Ray Santiago) with his former housekeeper, Isabella (Alanna Ubach), so he injects truth serum into Greg to force him to tell the truth. During the engagement party, Greg reveals several secrets, including Pam being pregnant and Jorge being his son, in front of 50 other Fockers. The next morning, Dina tells everybody what Jack had done to Greg. Jack flies off the handle and leaves in a rage when Dina, Pam, and the Fockers side against him. Greg and Bernie race after him, but end up getting arrested for speeding. Jack learns that the DNA reveals that Greg isn’t Jorge’s father, so he turns the RV around and drives back to apologize. On the way there, he sees Greg and Bernie in handcuffs and tries to intervene, but gets arrested himself. Luckily, Bernie is able to get them out of jail because he is a good friend of the judge (Roz had saved the judge’s marriage by helping him with his sex life). Greg convinces his dad and Jack to move up the wedding to that weekend. Jack hires Kevin (Owen Wilson) as the minister. At the wedding reception, Roz gives Jack advice on how to spice up his sex life. Jack takes Dina to the RV where they end up doing it. During the closing credits, Jack is watching the surveillance tape he had installed in the house, which shows Roz giving Little Jack chocolate, Bernie telling Little Jack not to believe everything grandpa tells him, and Greg saying that he smokes joints and Pam isn’t pregnant…just kidding, he doesn’t do drugs and Pam is pregnant. He had known about the hidden camera all along.

Comments about this movie?
I thought this sequel was pretty funny and actually lived up to the original. There were a lot of silly gags and jokes, but they were still entertaining. Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand were both great as Greg’s hippy and liberal parents which contrasted perfectly with Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner as the stiff and straight parents. I was quite surprised at Hoffman’s ability to do comedic roles really well. Oh, and of course, we can’t forget adorable Little Jack who has some scene-stealing moments and who can forget his first word? :)
