On Alice’s first day in London she runs into Dan, a writer with writers block. She gets hit by a cab and he takes her to the hospital and they begin to talk. They go for a walk in a park with plaques for people who died saving people. As Alice gazes at the plaques she tells Dan about her life. They begin dating.
Three years go by and Dan writes a book about Alice. He hires Anna to take his picture for the inside flap. They are drawn to each other and share a kiss. Anna tells Dan she can’t see him anymore because he is dating Alice.
Dan is mad at Anna for leaving him and goes online where he pretends to be Anna and ask Larry to meet her. When Larry goes to meet “Anna” the real Anna is there and she thinks he is charming, they begin dating.
A year after Dan and Anna kissed they meet again at Anna’s showing. While Larry and Alice meet for the first time and are interested in one another, Dan begs Anna to see him again, she agrees. After a year they decide to tell the truth about their relationship. Dan breaks up with Alice and Anna leaves Larry.
Larry is upset goes into a strip club where he meets up with Alice who is now working there. They talk but when Larry ask her what her name is she keeps saying “MY NAME IS JANE JONES” over and over again. They wind up sleeping together.
Anna meanwhile leaves Dan and goes back with Larry. Dan who is mad goes to talk to Larry who tells him to get back with Alice. Dan doesnt know where Alice is so Larry tells him he found her gives Dan the address, then tells Dan he slept with her.
Dan finds Alice and they get back together. They decide to go on a trip to New York. But Dan can’t let go of what Larry said. He ask Alice if she slept with Larry, she says no, but Dan doesn’t believe her. He leaves. When he comes back Alice tells Dan she doesn’t love him anymore and that she did in fact sleep with Larry. Dan gets mad and slaps Alice.
In the end Larry and Anna are laying in bed, unhappy. Alice goes to New York without Dan and the man who works at the airport opens her passport and says “welcome back to new york MISS JONES”. Alice smiles and walks away. Dan walks trough the park where he first talked to Alice, as he walks one of the plaques catches his eye “ALICE AYRES WHO DIED SAVING 3 CHILDREN IN 1885″. Dan is shocked to learn the woman he spent the last 4 years with doesn’t exist, he never even knew her real name. The last scene is Alice or should I say Jane walking down the street in New York smiling.
