Finding Neverland
Johnny Depp stars in this magical and wonderful film as James Barrie, the
real-life author of the children’s classic "Peter Pan". Set in London in
1904 (based on true events), the film tells of Barrie’s first inspiration for
Peter Pan and bringing the play to life at the premiere at the Duke of York’s
Theatre.

After his latest play bombs at the theatre, Barrie realizes he desperately
needs some inspiration and new ideas for his next play. During his daily
walk with his dog, Porthos, in London’s Kensington Gardens, his life
completely changes when he meets the Llewelyn Davies family: Sylvia
(Kate Winslet) and her 4 boys, Peter (Freddie Highmore), Jack (Joe Prospero),
George (Nick Roud), and Michael (Luke Spill). Despite his wife’s, Mary (Radha
Mitchell), growing resentment and the boys’ grandmother’s, Emma du Maurier
(Julie Christie) disapproval, Barrie becomes good friends with Sylvia and her
boys. The boys, of course, are the inspirations for "Peter Pan" and
becomes "The Lost Boys of Neverland"… (to read more, check out the movie’s

Starring: Johnny Depp (Sir James Matthew Barrie), Kate Winslet (Sylvia Llewelyn Davies), Julie Christie (Mrs. Emma du Maurier), Radha Mitchell (Mary Ansell Barrie), Dustin Hoffman (Charles Frohman)
James Barrie’s wife, Mary, leaves him for another man. On the opening night of “Peter Pan”, Sylvia is unable to make it to the play due to her illness. She urges her son, Peter (Freddie Highmore), to go see it, so he does. The 25 seats that James had reserved was actually for a bunch of kids from the orphanage. The play is a huge success as the kids laugh and clap which encourages the adults to loosen up and enjoy the play as well. James visits Sylvia in the meantime. Before he leaves, Sylvia asks him to tell her about Neverland one day. Later, James surprises her by playing the “Peter Pan” play at her house. As the play ends, the wall disappears and Neverland suddenly appears in her garden. Entranced by the beauty, Sylvia walks towards Neverland. She dies from her illness. James, Sylvia’s mother (Emma), and the 4 boys stare at her grave site. Peter runs off. Emma tells James that in Sylvia’s will, she appointed her and him as co-guardians for the boys. James finds Peter in the park and tells him he’s staying and will be their co-guardian. Peter shows him his journal and says he’s been writing in it since his mother died. He asks James why she had to die. James says he doesn’t know, but assures him she will always be alive in his imagination and can see her anytime he wants in Neverland. The End.
Personal comments about this movie?
Finding Neverland was an absolutely glorious movie. I was enchanted by the heartwarming story, the characters, and the delightful imagination created by James Barrie who was beautifully acted by Johnny Depp. The film was sweet without being too sappy or sentimental. The child actors were all charming, especially Freddie Highmore who played Peter so convincingly and realistically. I loved how some of the scenes transformed into Barrie’s imagination as the viewers saw his creative mind through his eyes. I also liked how none of the characters were one-dimensional. There was true character development. Even the most difficult or cold characters had good reasons for acting the way they did…highly recommended film.
