Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason

Posted by: Luna on Friday, November 12th, 2004

Starring: Renee Zellweger (Bridget Jones), Colin Firth (Mark Darcy), Hugh Grant (Daniel Cleaver), Jacinda Barrett (Rebecca), James Callis (Tom)

Bridget gets busted for smuggling drugs at the Thailand airport though it was Jed (Paul Nicholls) who was really responsible. She goes to the Thailand prison and stays there for a while. She makes friends with her fellow female prison mates in the meantime. Mark eventually visits her there and tells her the charges against her will be dropped. Bridget tries to thank him, but he coldly tells her he is only the messenger (he had heard about her being with Daniel Cleaver that night though nothing had happened). Bridget gets released from prison and goes back to London. When she arrives home, Tom, Jude (Shirley Henderson), Shazzer (Sally Phillips), and Magda (Jessica Stevenson) are there. They tell her Mark had actually went through great lengths to get her released and Bridget realizes Mark still loves her; In the meantime, Mark finds out Daniel had witnessed Bridget getting arrested at the airport, but had done nothing to help. Mark and Daniel start another hilarious fight (similar to the one in the 1st movie). Daniel tells Mark he and Bridget hadn’t slept together that night; Bridget rushes over to Mark’s house to apologize, but she finds Rebecca there instead. Rebecca tells Bridget she’s not in love with Mark. She’s actually in love with her! Rebecca then kisses her on the lips. Bridget, surprised yet pleased, tells her she’s in love with Mark and rushes off to Mark’s law office. She barges into a room only to find him with a bunch of other lawyers. She tells him she still loves him and will always love him. He takes her out of the room and proposes to her (but not before Bridget screwing it up first). Last scene shows Bridget’s parents getting remarried. Bridget catches the bouquet and she and Mark share a passionate kiss.

Personal comments about this movie?
Bridget Jones is back and better than ever! I loved this movie, couldn’t stop laughing. As usual, you can’t stop sympathizing with Bridget during her most awkward and embarrassing moments, but that’s what makes her so lovable and believable. I loved how Darcy did love her “just as she is” despite her many flaws and jealousies. The dialogues were witty and the cinematography was wonderful. Anyone who loved the 1st Bridget Jones will certainly enjoy this one.
