Starring: Jude Law (Alfie), Marisa Tomei (Julie), Omar Epps (Marlon), Nia Long (Lonette), Susan Sarandon (Liz)
Alfie sees Julie again in a coffee shop. He apologizes to her and tries to get with her again, but it turns out she’s already seeing another guy; Alfie drives over to see Marlon and Lonette. He soon finds out why they’ve been cold to him. Lonette never got the abortion and is raising Alfie’s baby with Marlon. Marlon returns as Alfie is leaving. He tries to explain he never meant to hurt anybody, but Marlon just gives him a cold look and walks away. Alfie drives away and starts crying; He then decides to visit Liz, but he catches her with another man. Alfie runs into Dorie (Jane Krakowski), but she wants nothing to do with him and brushes him off. He apologizes to her. She wishes him luck and walks away. Despite his constant heartaches, Alfie declares that he will still continue with his womanizing ways.
Personal comments about this movie? Even though I’ve never seen the original “Alfie” played by Michael Caine, I thought Jude Law was amazing and captivating as Alfie. Alfie doesn’t try to be perfect. In fact, he knows he’s not perfect and he knows he’s done wrong yet he still makes the same mistakes over and over again. At least the character is dealt with in an honest way. I’m glad they didn’t sugarcoat it and suddenly made him fall in love and committment-happy. Despite this unlikable character, I still enjoyed the film and the other characters played by Susan Sarandon, Marisa Tomei, and Sienna Miller who were also very good. I wish they could’ve had bigger roles though.
I’ve seen both versions of Alfie, and I liked both. The story is the same, but the two interpretations of Alfie are completely different. Jude Law’s Alfie is a much nicer guy. Michael Caine’s Alfie is, in comparison, an animal. He was so hard on his women. Caine’s Alfie is much more misanthropic that Law’s Alfie. The guy was downright mean.
Anyway, Alfie(2004) was great! It’s the best movie I’ve seen all year. Jude Law is really outstanding in this film. I can’t imagine another actor who could have done a better job with this character.

I’m glad it was Jude Law and NOT Hugh Grant. Jude Law is a great British import to the silver screen.
Although it wasn’t very deep, he still made it interesting. His narration was convincing and very bold. Good job.
