Alexander (2004)
Starring: Colin Farrell (Alexander), Angelina Jolie (Olympias), Val Kilmer (Philip), Anthony Hopkins (Ptolemy), Jared Leto (Hephaestion)
Alexander becomes grief-stricken and starts to lose his mind after his best friend (and possibly lover), Hephaistion, dies of typhus (an illness caused by unclean water). He sees a wine goblet next to his bedside. Thinking Hephaistion had been poisoned, Alexander storms into Roxane’s (Rosario Dawson) room and, in a rage, tries to kill her. She tells him she’s finally pregnant and he decides not to kill her. Before his 33rd birthday, while drinking with his friends, Alexander becomes fatally ill and eventually dies (possibly from being poisoned by his own men). Returning to the present with Ptolemy, he talks of how after Alexander’s death, lots of other events took place including the murders of Alexander’s mother Olympias, wife Roxane, and his 13-year-old son (killing all of Alexander’s remaining bloodline). The empire was divided into 4 with 4 different rulers.
