Starring: Ryan Gosling (young Noah Calhoun), Rachel McAdams (young Allie), James Garner (Duke), Gena Rowlands (Older Allie)
Allie chose Noah over Lon; in the present day, we find out that Duke is actually Noah and has been hoping Allie would remember him; during dinner, her memory returns briefly only to go away again. She screams at him to stay away and Noah starts crying (very heartbreaking scene!); that night, Noah suffers a heart attack; when he is able to walk, he goes to Allie’s room at night and she remembers him again; Noah lies down on the bed beside her and they both wish their love will last through eternity; in the morning, a nurse finds them dead in bed together, clutching on to each other’s hands.
Personal comments about this movie? I personally really liked this movie even though the story is pretty predictable. Boy meets girl, boy and girl falls in love, girl’s parents disapprove, boy and girl break up, boy and girl gets back together at the end. Even so, this film held my attention because of the strong love between Noah and Allie. How often do you meet someone who is so devoted to you that, against all odds, he/she would continually repeat the same love story over and over, hoping that you’ll remember it? It was sweet and heartbreaking at the same time to watch Noah suffer through Allie’s mood swings due to her Alzheimers. Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, and Gena Rowlands were all very good. The sets and sceneries were simply breathtaking.
