Ned Kelly and his gang end up staying in a pub in Glenrowan for a few days. They damage the train tracks hoping the police will be killed in a train accident. One of the people in the pub escape to warn Hare and the police, escaping the accident. The police surround the pub. Knowing they can’t escape, Ned, Dan, Joe, and Steve (Phil Barantini) put on their bulletproof steel outfits and a major shooting spree occurs. Some of the people in the pub get injured and/or killed and eventually have to evacuate. Since the bulletproof steel outfits don’t protect their necks and legs, Ned and the gang gets shot and injured. Joe ends up mortally wounded and dies in the pub. Rather than be taken alive, Dan and Steve both committ suicide together. Ned survives, but gets arrested and hauled off to Melbourne on the train. As he lies on the train, Ned remembers back when he was a boy, he had gotten a green ribbon for saving a boy from drowning. His parents had been so proud of him. As the film ends, we learn that Ned was tried, convicted, and hanged in Melbourne despite many petitions pleading for his release.
