The ring gets destroyed when Smeagol (voice of Andy Serkis) falls into the lava pit, with the ring clutched in his hands, at Mordor. Mankind is saved from all evil. Aragorn is crowned king of Gondor and reunites with his true love, Arwen (Liv Tyler). Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin all earn the respect of everyone at the ceremony in Gondor. Months later, the hobbits all return to the Shire. Frodo finishes the book his uncle Bilbo (Ian Holm) started and gives it to Sam, leaving some pages for him to write in. Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf, and the elves all sail away to the undying lands.
