Jess’s father allows her to sneak off during her sister’s wedding reception long enough to play in the championship soccer game, which her team does win; an American scout talent attending the game offers both Jess and Juliette full scholarships to attend college and play soccer in America; with much convincing, Jess’s parents relent and allow her to go; at the airport, before they leave for America, Joe meets up with Jess and tells her he would still like to have a relationship despite the distance and family differences and Jess agrees with a kiss. Jess and Juliette then catches sight of David Beckham and his wife Victoria “Posh Spice” arriving at the airport. Jess tells Joe she’ll be back for Christmas and then she and Juliette leave for America; as time passes, we see both families holding up pictures of the girls with their soccer team; Joe plays cricket with Jess’s dad.
Personal comments about this movie? One of the funniest and wittiest British films I’ve seen. It’s a typical feel-good kind of movie and the ending is predictable, but the story itself is quite original. An Indian-English girl must overcome many obstacles to do the one thing she loves: play soccer. The obstacles? Mainly her parents. With many funny moments, this film is both lovable and respectful at the same time. Definitely worth checking out.
