X2: X-Men United

Posted by: Luna on Friday, May 2nd, 2003

Starring: Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier), Ian McKellen (Erik/Magneto), Hugh Jackman (Logan/Wolverine), Brian Cox (William Stryker), Halle Berry (Storm), Famke Jansen (Dr. Jean Grey), James Marsden (Scott/Cyclops), Anna Paquin (Marie/Rogue), Rebecca Romjin-Stamos (Mystique)

William Stryker plans to use his son, Jason’s (Michael Reid MacKay) mutant powers (ability to create illusions) on Professor Xavier to kill all the mutants; Wolverine remembers it was Stryker who had implanted his skeleton with adamantium and then tries to kill him, but is stopped by Lady Deathstrike (Kelly Hu) who is his match. In the end, he kills her; Stryker’s attempt to kill all mutants fails when Magneto and Mystique (who changes into Stryker) interferes and orders Jason to kill all humans; the X-Men stops the attempt on time; Magneto kills Stryker by chaining him up against the wall and letting him drown; Pyro (Aaron Stanford) decides to join Magneto team; Jean sacrifices herself to save everyone on the jet and appears to have “drowned” when the water finally breaks the dam; in the very last scene, there is a outline figure of a golden bird in the water, so I’m sure they will be filming the “Phoenix Saga” in X3! :)

Comments about this movie?
Used to love watching the X-Men cartoon series. I did enjoy seeing them on the big screen though I liked X2 better than the 1st X-Men. I personally think there were way too many mutants in this movie. They should’ve concentrated on a selected few because there just wasn’t any character development. The strongest mutant role was, of course, Wolverine, who is one of my fave X-Men, but I would have also liked to see more of Storm (who had one of the weakest roles), Mystique, Rogue, and maybe Ice Man. Hopefully, these characters will have bigger roles in X3. Overall, I would give this film a good rating because it was fun to watch…I’m guessing they will touch on the Phoenix Saga in X3. I hope they will bring in Gambit. :)
