Down With Love

Turns out Barbara Novak is really Nancy Brown. She used to be one of Catcher Block’s many secretaries who fell in love with him. Of course, he doesn’t remember her. The book “Down With Love had all been part of her grand scheme to get him to fall in love with her. She explains to Catcher how she wrote the book to get him to notice her (Barbara/Nancy had already known everything about him - the way he would blow her off, his reaction to her, etc.), and she knew about his plan all along to trick her into falling in love with him so he could write his exposé on her. She also says she wanted him to realize he had met his match and fall in love with her. Shocked and openmouthed (I must admit, I chuckled at his reaction in this scene), Catcher is left speechless. Despite all this, Catcher realizes he is in love with her and proposes to her. She turns him down, saying she doesn’t want to give up her career for marriage. She ends up starting her own hugely successful magazine business which causes Catcher to go out of business. To get her back, Catcher applies for a job as her secretary. He gives her a copy of his exposé which turns out to be about himself, how he became a changed man after he fell in love with her. Of course, Catcher and Barbara/Nancy end up together and gets married. Oh, and Peter McMannus and Vikki Hiller also end up together.
