Good Girl, The
Starring: Jennifer Aniston (Justine “Teeny”), Jake Gyllenhaal (Thomas ‘Holden’/'Tom’ Worther), John C. Reilly (Phil), Tim Blake Nelson (Bubba)
Holden steals money from the Retail Rodeo department store, begs Justine to run away with him. He asks her to meet him at their motel and she tells him she wants to grab some things first at home. He says he will be there until noon. She goes home and packs some of her things and drives off. She comes to an intersection, to her left is the Retail Rodeo and to her right is the motel. She chooses the Retail Rodeo. She goes there and tells the cops of Holden’s whereabouts and how long he’ll be there; she goes home, Phil gets a phone call from the doctor saying his sperm is no good, but Phil does not believe it since Justine is pregnant; news reports that a man shot himself in a motel room gets Justine’s attention. Turns out it’s Holden and Justine is shocked beyond belief; next day, Bubba tells Justine that Phil received the credit card statement and saw all the charges Justine made at the motel. Bubba begs her not to tell Phil about them having sex. She goes home, Phil is very upset and slaps her. He asks her whether the baby really is his and Justine swears it is; in the end, we see that Justine’s life hasn’t changed. She still works at the Retail Rodeo, but she and Phil do raise Holden’s (or Bubba’s) baby.
Personal comments about the movie?
Excellent film. Outstanding acting by Jennifer Aniston. Jennifer was able to discard her ‘Rachel’ image and play this tired, bored, frustrated dowdy woman stuck in a marriage with a boring and dimwitted guy. When a cute, interesting younger guy comes into her life, she suddenly becomes alive. Jennifer played this role so well that I forgot that she plays ‘Rachel’. In fact, I didn’t find any trace of her “Friends’” character at all. Out of the cast in “Friends”, Jennifer will have the most promising career in movies.
