One of my fave movies. The relationship between John Rooney and Michael Sullivan was more complex than just a employer-employee kind of relationship. It was more of a father-son relationship. I couldn’t help feeling sympathy for both characters. Though he loved Michael like a son, he could not allow him to kill his son even though his son had killed Michael’s wife and son. Michael, of course, wanted revenge, so, as much as he loved John as a father, he had to kill him to get to his son. Neither had wanted the other to die, but a tragic event had forced both of them to turn on each other. The complexities of these 2 characters were well portrayed by Paul Newman and Tom Hanks.
