Importance of Being Earnest, The (2002)
Starring: Rupert Everett (Algy), Colin Firth (Jack), Frances O’Connor (Gwendolen), Reese Witherspoon (Cecily), Judi Dench (Lady Bracknell), Tom Wilkinson (Dr. Chasuble), Anna Massey (Miss Prism)
Turns out Miss Prism once worked for Lady Bracknell as a nanny. She disappeared one day after losing a baby in her care by putting the baby in her handbag accidentally and leaving it in Victoria Station (the same train station baby Jack was found in). Jack is shocked when he hears this, so he goes to fetch the bag he was found in. Surprise surprise, turns out to be Miss Prism’s missing bag! Miss Prism actually worked for Lady Bracknell’s sister (Algy’s mother), therefore, Algy and Jack are brothers, and Jack is Lady Bracknell’s nephew. She tells Jack he was named after his father (who was a general in the army), so he looks up his father’s name in the military ledger and it says “Jack”. Lady Bracknell finally gives her blessing for the 2 young couples (Algy & Cecily and Jack & Gwendolen) to marry. Miss Prism apologizes for the trouble she had caused and decides to leave. She is convinced to stay when Dr. Chasuble confesses his love for Miss Prism and they end up marrying. They all live happily ever after.
