Possession (2002)
Starring: Gwyneth Paltrow (Maud Bailey), Aaron Eckhart (Roland Michell), Jeremy Northam (Randolph Henry Ash), Jennifer Ehle (Christabel LaMotte), Lena Headey (Blanche Glover)
Maud and Roland found love letters that revealed Randolph Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte were once involved in a love affair. They also found out that Christabel’s lesbian lover, Blanche, had committed suicide over the affair and that Christabel had a daughter with Randolph. Turns out they had broken up and she had never told him about their child for 20 years. In the letters, it reveals that Christabel had given her daughter to her sister and brother-in-law to adopt and raise. Therefore, Christabel is actually Maud’s great-grandmother rather than her great aunt as she had originally thought. Oh, yes, and Maud and Roland fall in love along the way.
Comments about this movie?
The story wasn’t suspenseful and I knew how it would end yet I still enjoyed this film. I’ve never read the book, so I don’t know how accurate the movie is compared to the book. There were no real surprises and it was predictable, but I loved the costumes and the beautiful landscapes and sceneries that were shot. I also enjoyed the love story element.
