Training Day
Starring: Denzel Washington (Det.-Sgt. Alonzo Harris), Ethan Hawke (Officer Jake Hoyt), Scott Glenn (Roger), Tom Berenger (Stan Gursky)
Alonzo leaves Jake at the house to be killed by his thug friends. Just as Jake is about to be shot in the head, one of the guys goes through his pockets and takes out the wallet that belongs to the girl who was almost raped in the beginning of the film. The girl happens to be one of the guys’ cousin. Jake tells him he had saved her from being raped, so he calls her up to confirm and she backs up Jake’s story. The guys let Jake go. Jake finds Alonzo and confronts him resulting in a shoot out at his house. They eventually end up in a neighborhood surrounded by gang members. Jake has a gun on Alonzo, so Alonzo offers to pay a lot of money to whomever kills Jake. Nobody takes him up on the offer. They point their guns at Alonzo and let Jake walk away. Alonzo then leaves in his car and drives towards the airport. Before he can get there, he is stopped by a couple of vans carrying Russians. They jump out with machine guns and blow Alonzo away. The last scene shows Jake going back home to his family.
Comments about this movie?
Denzel Washington turns in one of the greatest performances of his career. The film is worth watching just to see his acting. Denzel’s character was totally bad! He usually plays the nice guy, so it was a good change to see him play a completely different role.
