In the Mood for Love (aka Fa Yeung Nin Wa)
Starring: Tony Leung Chiu Wai (Chow Mo-wan), Maggie Cheung (Su Li-zhen Chan), Ping Lam Siu (Ah Ping), Rebecca Pan (Mrs. Suen), Lai Chen (Mr. Ho)
After finding out their spouses are having an affair with each other, Mr. Chow and Su Li-zhen turn to each other for comfort and support. Eventually, they fall deeply in love, but never become lovers as they are more bound by honor and refuse to stoop to their spouses’s level of betrayal and deceit. They share many intimate conversations with each other, confiding in each other their feelings of pain and unhappiness. When their spouses return, they go their separate ways. Years later, we find out Mr. Chow’s wife had died and Su Li-zhen is now divorced from her husband. She comes back to the apartment building and ends up buying the same place where she had lived next to Mr. Chow. At that time, Mr. Chow also returns to the building, but finds out from the tenant that the previous owner no longer lives there. He leaves, upset and disappointed, as he had hoped the previous owner could’ve help him get in touch with Su Li-zhen. Su Li-zhen and Mr. Chow miss each other by a few minutes, and never see each other again.
