Starring: Heath Ledger (Patrick Verona), Julia Stiles (Katarina ‘Kat’ Stratford), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Cameron James), Larisa Oleynik (Bianca Stratford), Andrew Keegan (Joey Donner)
Bianca and Cameron and Patrick and Kat all go to the prom together. Joey, who had wanted to take Bianca to the prom, spills the beans in front of Kat that he had paid Patrick to date her. Patrick, who was genuinely in love with Kat, tries to explain, but Kat storms out of the prom. Bianca punches Joey; the next day, Kat recites a poem in front of the class and lists 10 reasons why she hates Patrick (though she didn’t say his name) and says the last reason why she hates him is because she loves him. Kat walks out of the class in tears. Later, Patrick walks up to her in the parking lot and tells her he loves her, too. Then they kiss.
Comments about this movie? A modern adaption of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew”. A little cliche, but it was still witty and intelligent to keep me interested. It’s predictable, but if you need a light comedy, this is the one.
