Starring: Nicolas Cage (Tom Welles), Joaquin Phoenix (Max California), James Gandolfini (Eddie Poole), Peter Stormare (Dino Velvet), Anthony Heald (Daniel Longdale)

The snuff movie was real. Mary Ann (Jenny Powell) was killed by the men who made the movie. Turns out Mrs. Christian’s (Myra Carter) dead husband’s lawyer was hired to make the film and then kept most of the $1 million made for himself. Eddie had killed Mary Ann and then buried her in the woods. Tom finds all this out, tells Mary Ann’s mother, Janet (Amy Morton), that she really had been murdered, and then kills the murderers one by one (which was encouraged by Janet). Mrs. Christian committs suicide after finding out that the snuff film was real. She left 2 envelopes: one to pay Tom for his work and the other with money for Janet along with a note begging for her forgiveness. Tom reconciles with his wife. He gets a letter from Janet thanking him and noting that they were the only two who cared about Mary Ann.

Personal comments about this movie?
Not too bad of a movie. Had some very interesting and shocking moments that made me keep watching. Great performance by Nicolas Cage with a decent script and story. The movie’s not as bad as people might think. Of course, it’s not for everyone because it is about ‘underground porn’ and ’snuff’ films. Good for those who can watch it with an open mind.
